BBC4 Fail by Davey
I had recorded, and later watched, Ep. 1 of the Robots Taking over the World BB4 series, on 26 July, and I had recorded Ep. 2 on 2 Aug. But when I came to watch it, I found I had 60 minutes of a digital Post-it Note telling me that the program was either encrypted or otherwise unavailable. Was this a boo-boo on the Beeb's part, or a problem with my PVR? Any help welcome. It's the first time I...

Sony DVD hack device by Davey
Does anyone here know anything about these? I bought a hacked multi-region Sony DVD player, but it had lost its hacked programming, so the seller has suggested this, and will refund the cost. But any advice would be welcome first. The unit I have, DVP-NS305, is listed...

New Humax by Davey
A friend of mine, who is a good car mechanic, but not particularly interested in domestic electrical devices, has just bought a new Humax Freeview Play PVR to replace the ageing VCR. The first thing to do was to get it working just connected to the antenna, as there is no internet cable to the room yet, but it appears to really, really want to be on the internet. When he went through the start-up...

Richard's Weather failed to record by Davey
I set my HDR Fox T2 to record Richard Hammond's weather program last night at 9 pm, but it didn't do so. There is a reference to 'Failed to track program' when I play what it did save. I got it later via iPlayer, I think, although from what I saw, there was a huge mis-match with the subtitles, the display having come and gone before Hammond got around to speaking the words. Any idea what the...

Strange Humax behaviour by Davey
I turned on the HDR-Fox T2 this evening, and it would not talk to the TV. Turning it off and back on showed the Humax flash screen, and then it failed again; it did the same thing several times. Turning the TV on and off made no difference. I fiddled with both ends of the HDMI cable, to fix any loose connections. Then I switched to a different HDMI input on the TV, and now it works. I am afraid...

Humax strange behaviour by Davey
I'm not sure what happened, but my Humax Fox HDR-T2 decided tonight that it was unhappy. I knew that it should have been recording 'Our Zoo', but it wasn't, so I turned it on 'blind', ie the wife was still watching Miss Marple on the TV. The Humax displayed something like 'Installation', as though it was starting from scratch, and would not tune to BBC2. When I was able to get access to it, after...

Use of the Rasperry Pi as a Mythtv frontend by James Harris[_2_]
(For any who don't know, Mythtv is an awesome TV recording and playback system and the Raspberry Pi is an Arm computer that is tiny and yet capable of 1080-line video output.) Is it feasible to use the Raspberry Pi as a Mythtv frontend? It certainly has the graphics output facilities but I wonder how fast the Pi would find and read the video files. Option 1: run the mythtv-frontend program...

LG 498H Hard Drive Renewal by marask
Hello All Just wondered if anyone has ever renewed (or enlarged) the HDD on the above model of machine. I can find various "how to's" on the net but nothing specific to this model. Having had to format the drive once to overcome recording/ playback lapses I contacted LG and was told that I could not change the HDD myself. Well if they can do it so can I! The only thing lacking is the

Two Topfields in the same room? by T i m
Hi all, We now have two Topfield TF-5800 PVR's in the same room and 'of course' the remotes work both boxes. ;-( Now, I have had a bit of a Google and seen mention of alternative remotes, setting remotes to different modes and taps etc but nothing specific for 5800s. Now, one 'remote' is used pretty close to it's box so I could make it

USB and Humax by Davey
I am new to the world of PVRs. I have a Humax-Fox T2, and I can't find how to successfully watch a program from a USB stick. I have tried just about every format I can think of, but the PVR always recognises that there is a stick attached, but never seems to see anything on it. It never shows it in the Storage list, even as a place to which to copy a program already on the HDD. Does this mean...

Recording finished early by Davey
Is this a common problem? I have a three-minute end of program pad set up, but when we watched last week's Inspector Montalbano tonight, recorded on my new Humax-Fox PVR, it stopped a few minutes before the actual end of the programme. Who tells the machine to stop recording? And is there a generally accepted useful padding time? I think I'll extend it to about 10 minutes. And I would love to...

Humax PV9200T and eLinker; but 9150 doesnt? by GOG
Hi, I started with a Humax 9200, a few years ago, but that has become almost unusably slow to obey commands, so it 'forgets' to record reserved progs, and so on, and often seizes up entirely. Anyway, it has become essentially unusable in normal use :-(. What it can do, which I now regard as an essential feature, is that you can upload saved files, via its USB port and using eLinker, to...
